Longtime Niles, Illinois, Mayor Nicholas B. Blase, an attorney, was arrested June 8, 2006, on federal corruption charges for accepting kickbacks in a scheme that authorities alleged went back at least 17 years.
In a criminal complaint unsealed that morning, Blase was
charged with one count of mail fraud for allegedly steering local
businesses to buy insurance from Ralph Weiner & Associates, which
kicked back bribes to the mayor. A copy of the Federal Complaint that
was filed can be found here.
CLR believes that if attorney Blase is not found not-guilty,
then the monies he obtained from this scheme are "ill-gotten gains",
and any person or persons to whom he gave gifts, purchased items for,
or spent any of the "ill-gotten gains" on, are recipients of the
"ill-gotten gains", and all such "ill-gotten gains" must be returned.
These person or persons include his wife, his children, his
grandchildren and others.
