              A disbarred Chatham County lawyer
was arrested Friday on seven counts
              of first-degree forgery.

Reginald C. "Bubba" Haupt Jr., 63,
was picked up by Richmond Hill
              police on an outstanding warrant
              issued in Chatham County.

              Chatham County police said Haupt
had gone into business with the Blue Crab restaurant on
Victory Drive and was working there as a manager when
he wrote several unauthorized checks there in
              September.

              He was arraigned Monday afternoon.

Haupt was disbarred by the state Supreme Court in 1983
for defrauding clients. In addition, he was convicted of
stealing money from clients and was sentenced to two
years in prison. He was released Dec. 20, 1985.

Following his release, Haupt went into Christian ministry.
