A local newspaper reporter who's suspected of drunk driving is facing more than a DUI charge. According to the police report, Celeste Whiteford, a reporter for the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, didn't take the police stop seriously and tried to use her position to intimidate the arresting officers. During the arrest, Whiteford, an attorney, allegedly made sure the officers knew what she did for a living. Her run-in with police started about 1am Sunday morning in the 600 block of Franklin Avenue. According to Wilkinsburg police, they saw her Ford Explorer weaving -- nearly striking a parked car. When they stopped Whiteford on South Avenue, police say they immediately smelled alcohol and noticed that her speech was slurred. A police report quotes Whiteford as saying, "Why are you doing this to me? I have a law degree." The arresting officer wrote, "I thought she was going to fall over each time she attempted the nose touch test." The report states Whiteford refused another field sobriety test, saying, "What do you think, I'm [expletive] stupid? I'm a lawyer and I know the law better than any of you [expletive]." Her aggressive tone apparently continued. Police quoted her as saying, "Your [expletive] is mine. I work for the paper." Then she allegedly hiked her skirt and exposed herself. The police report goes on to say that Whiteford used ethnic slurs and threatened to use her professional position to destroy the career of the arresting officer -- and destroy the Wilkinsburg police department. Whiteford denied any wrongdoing, telling KDKA that Wilkinsburg police
have a vendetta against her because of her past clients.
